Industrial Waste & Use of Pesticides In Food Industry

Manufacturing industry uses pesticides and preservatives to double their throughput and its non-biodegradable waste is so large every year. It’s ethical by the law but is it really ethical being a human. Use of pesticides and use of preservatives in food lead to numerous diseases. the industrial waste is dumped into seas and nobody is there to look for it which in result harm not only environment bur also to human and wildlife.

According to (Darier, 2013) Traditional Chinese herbs have a strong reputation for their medicinal benefits, but a Greenpeace East Asia investigation has revealed that these herbs are coated in a toxic cocktail of pesticide residues, posing long-term health risks instead.

Herbal products are used in daily cooking in some countries. Many people add ginseng, red dates or chrysanthemums, for example, to their soups or tea to cure various health problems. These herbs are extensively used outside china by people who seek for alternatives for the allopathic medicines. It is estimated to be sixty billion dollars annually.

According to (EWG's 2013 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce™)Greenpeace East Asia explains how it tested 65 samples of Chinese herbal products and found them to be coated in pesticide residues – some of them banned in China. Some of the pesticides detected are highly hazardous according to the norms of WHO. European countries have already banned some of the pesticides used. Pesticide may lead to many diseases such as hormone disruption, cancer etc.

In Organic industries natural pest management techniques are used. It makes sure that no loss is made to the environment by any means and also no chemicals are being introduced in water or air.

Industrial waste water is becoming a big issue these days. The waste contains toxic chemicals like mercury and eventually attack people. In some part of the world industrial waste is causes rain to be acid rain which is harmful for people.

In industries pesticides, preservatives and chemicals used are so deadly that when they are used the person spraying our adding it is wearing full uniform to protect himself. Human ethics does not allow this kind of work.

According to (EWG's 2013 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce™) Field corn and soy is produced in industrial plants with genetically modified seeds which are then used to make tortillas, chips and corn syrup. Genetically modified plants should be banned completely because they are not good for health even more than the pesticide plants.

Most easily available GMO from industries are found in supermarkets such as small amount of zucchini, Hawaiian papaya and some varieties of sweet corn. There is no law in us to which makes the seller labels about the product weather it is organic or GMO.

There are many benefits of using organic industrial products, where no pesticides, preservatives and any kind of chemical are used. This simply means anything is not exposed to harmful chemicals and it means healthier soil that should sustain and better environment for generations to come.

Manufacturing industry waste is the issue which needs to be solved as soon as possible. It is estimated that in us only $700,000,000 will be required to manage industrial waste. it has been an ethical issue for a long time and still it is going on due to human needs and needs attention by the people. This problem of industrial waste can be solved by recycling products if taken care in tine. industrial water waste and other waste can be handled if given proper attention in time.

Infrared Cameras & RFID Technology in Supermarkets

An industrial engineer is required to make a job or a process in any industry faster, easier and capable. The latest news in the industrial field is that Supermarket chain is using infrared cameras to reduce customer wait times and (Radio frequency identification) RFID for faster inventory flow. This technology will help the industrial engineers in long run.

This technology was before used by military and police to keep an eye on enemy and criminals. According to (Lariviere, 2013).  these cameras detect body heat are placed at the entrances and above cash registers at most of Kroger’s roughly 2,400 stores. Paired with in-house software that determines the number of lanes that need to be open, the technology has reduced the customer’s average wait time to 26 seconds. That compares with an average of four minutes before Kroger began installing the cameras in 2010. This technology is not very expensive.

It also includes software that estimates time spent by the people in the store based on day and time. The number of lanes needed is told by the system itself in 30-minute increments, and displays the information on monitors which are placed above the lanes. Managers working can easily see them and place the registrars accordingly.

Using this technology will help workers to manage the work assigned to them at a faster and easier pace. This technology can help big industries reduce expenditure on labor. This technology not only saves money spent on labor but also helps the labor to be more productive.

These cameras help detect number of people entering the store at a given time and estimate according to that in how much time the customer how entered the store will come to the registrar. This estimations is done on the bases of studies performed in past and the software made by Kroger’s IT department. Suppose a scenario that there is not enough staff at a regular day. Cameras detected some amount of customers coming in and estimated the need of registrars to minimize the wait time by the customers. By the estimations by the software now they will be able to put down staff on registrar and have time to put staff on registrar till the customer reaches registrar after shopping.
There are so many supermarket stores like Wal-Mart how are trying to install RFID technology. It helps workers not to scan each and every product. In the Barcode system they have to scan each and every product which takes lots of time. In RFID technology workers would not have to scan each and every product instead all products will scan automatically when the pass through the scanning machine because they have a small chip installed in them. It is estimated that it cost around 20 cents a chip and will save such an amount of time that total amount of money saved would be much greater than spent on using bar code technology.

The flow of inventory would be fast and there would be no inventory backlog. Everything would work in just in time and cost of inventory will go down. Both of the technologies save big dollars for the companies.

Retrieved from http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview

Autodesk Fusion 360 is a new technological development in the field of Industrial, civil and Mechanical engineering field. It is a new 3D design tool. It is software which makes things so much easier for this field of engineer. It has almost changed the life of this field of engineers. It allows engineers to share designs and contact with their teams or network anytime and anywhere since they work in the cloud they always have access to designs or any project information.

You can post questions about the design to your team and ask for any detail you need. Autodesk 360 makes industrial design faster and easier than ever before. It is powerful and collaborative because it lets you work with the people you want to share design and help you complete it. Autodesk 360 basically helps bring everyone together at one place. Engineers can share ideas. Evolve them so that they become more refined.

They can design and solve problems together for a better success. User has its personnel dashboard and can start designing things. User can also use social media network for making their network. Users can also assign task to each other in a network. It is easy to use, learn and get. Mechanical design lets you take precision surfaces and engineer you final product making sure it will work. It can store older versions and the talks with the team mates. The design tools which where there before where not easy to use and accessible.

This 3D design tool has lot of technical advancement. For example you can use it through cell phones when you are away from your desk in office or home. According to http://www.autodesk.com/360-cloud it has virtually infinite computing power for fast rendering, optimization, analysis, and simulation. It has increased productivity with easy access to a wide variety of software and services. It has more flexible software access available anywhere, anytime, on any device. We can create design faster.

Its major contribution is that it eradicates the time wastage in computer labs or studios. It gives engineers up to 3 GB of free space of storage and 25 GB after subscription. Engineers can now see designs on their mobile phones. It allows us to add comments and version markers. It helps us solve for interference. One of the best feature in Autodesk 360 is it allows you to convert nonnative data and search for objects and components directly.

Other software available for 3D design are very complex and have high license cost. Feature like editing the design already made is not possible in many of the 3D design software but Autodesk 360 offers this feature. It also gives you full detail of who made the editing and when someone made the editing and why did they do so. It is cheap with just $25 for a month for license.

Engineers are happy to comment on this product. They say (according http://fusion360.autodesk.com/news/fusion360-launched) that it makes small adjustment which contributes so much to the looks of the design at the whole.

Industrial engineering offers broad spectrum of employment due to flexible in nature.

The term Industrial Engineering was first introduced by Diemer in 1900 to describe the mixture of engineering and business major. Industrial engineering offers broad spectrum of employment due to flexible in nature.

Students are taught subjects from mechanical, civil, electrical and management background. Industrial engineer learns skills from all areas while others learn in specific areas. They may work in financial firms, designing products, business analyst, quality analyst, hospitality management, healthcare industry, manufacturing firms, auto industry, consultancy firms or engineering companies and many more.

People in this field learn to solve problems in the production or manufacturing of product. They find creative ways to solve a given problem in a system and makes things work better. Industrial engineer has a science background and is good in math, science and computers but they also have people skills. They learn how the businesses work. They look at the whole picture and look at the things makes everything fit in place. They learn how the world works. This branch of engineering deals with optimization and improvement of products design, manufacturing and others systems in any industry. Their interest is generally related to minimize production cost with no effect to productions. They perform cost analysis.

They make things economical which means that the make things comfortable for labor so they get less tired when they are working. For example labor is standing whole day near the machinery working. So, they place a cushion mat on the production floor to make them less tired. They want profit of the firm to increase continuously with increase in production side by side. Time management is very crucial for an Industrial engineer.

The measure time for every move the employee makes and tries to plan things accordingly so there is no time wasted. For example they take time study for a biscuit to be produced in any biscuit plant. They time the whole assembly line and analyze how much time it takes to produce one set of biscuits. After that they examine that is there any possibility to take out any process which may reduce the time to make the biscuit or try to find out any process which takes greater time or due to which the whole process is getting slow.

They find out if it can be eradicated, skipped or if it can be improved. They try to make assembly line such that everything falls into one direction so that there is less distance between the machines. They measure cycle times and perform times studies on all processes in the industry. Industrial engineers also help in material handling inside and outside the industry. There is lot of things transported from one part of the industry to another and in some cases one part of the world to another. Industrial engineers help companies to find the cheapest way to transport good and material with minimum cost and labor.

Some shared values between industrial engineers are that they all use similar strategies define problems but the way they solve problems can differ. They all assume that the real world is perfect so they try to make things flawless but in the real world it is not true. They all work for development and improvement of the system. Industrial engineer field serves the world through giving technological advancement.

They bring out the new and creative ideas to the world. They automate things. They make things easier for the people by building new products. A small example would a car seat or steering drive for better driving to building a new system for a manufacturing or any industry which may save those thousands of dollars.

They help save electricity and other resources. They may help in managing waste material for the companies which indirectly serves for the world by decreasing the waste material.
